What is the most popular Native American jewelry?
Perhaps the most popular variety of Native American jewelry are turquoise bracelets. The three most common types are the cuff, link and beaded styles. The cuff style is formed in the shape of the wrist with the underside having an opening which allows it to be applied over the wrist bone. The opening will vary according to the wrist size it was designed for. Turquoise cuff bracelets are by far the most popular style and are widely made in the traditional and contemporary designs of Southwestern Native American jewelry. Link bracelets are made with a number of separate stones set in individual sterling silver bezel cups. The individual cupped stones are then connected by a series of jump rings or hinges with a clasp added to connect each end. The turquoise link bracelet is often made with a variety of other stone types to add contrast and color. This style is often desired because of the fact that it will more easily fit a wider range of wrist sizes and therefore has more adjustability. It is usually made in more petite or narrower designs when compared to the cuff style. The turquoise beaded bracelet is a definite trade mark design of Native American jewelry. The very intricate beading process involves the stringing together of literally hundreds of tiny beads to form unusual and unique designs. The beads are then very often attached to a leather base or bottom to form a bracelet shape. The Zuni tribes are well known for their beautiful and intricately designed beaded bracelets. When a variety of other colored beads are combined with turquoise, the design will be reminiscent of all the colors of a beautiful rainbow. |
